Throwback Friday: Dixie Chicks- "Not Ready to Make Nice"
The Dixie Chicks had one of the strongest comebacks in music history with "Not Ready to Make Nice" after controversy erupted over them in 2003 following a critical comment vocalist Natalie Maines made of the American President George W. Bush while performing in a concert in London. The song, which was written by all three band members, is a statement of how they feel over the controversy, the death threats they received, banning of their songs from country music radio stations, and freedom of speech.
"Not Ready to Make Nice" won Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Performance by a Group at the 2007 Grammy Awards. It also reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, but only #36 on Billboard's country chart.
Taking the Long Way won Album of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards and sold nearly 3 million copies in the United States.
