Isla Fisher Gets Mistaken for Her Husband's Daughter

Isla Fisher Gets Mistaken for Her Husband's Daughter

Isla Fisher was refused alcohol and taken to a special room at the first showbiz event she attended with her hubby Sacha Baron Cohen, whom she has been in a relationship with since 2002.

She said: “My first Hollywood party was awesome. It was for the director Sofia Coppola and was just walk-to-wall with shiny, fabulous people.

“I came to the front door with Sacha, and the hostess goes, ‘Sacha, you go through to this room and you come with me.’

“And she grabs my hand and takes me to this room filled with 12 year olds -- not even 15 year olds! -- and goes, ‘Sit here. Would you like a drink?’ So I go, ‘Can I have a glass of wine?’ and she goes, ‘No, you cannot.’ She thought I was Sacha’s daughter, basically.”

The actress also admitted she doesn’t usually enjoy celebrity parties because they are so tame.

She told Elle magazine: “Most people don’t know that Hollywood parties end at 10 pm. I’d rather see a movie.”

Isla Fisher Started Writing Scripts Because of Bad Female Comedic Roles

Isla Fisher Started Writing Scripts Because of Bad Female Comedic Roles

Isla Fisher was so frustrated at the lack of comedy material for actresses that she wrote her own script. The Wedding Crashers actress -- who is married to Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen -- felt the only way she could get a good role was to pen the in-development Groupies, which she will co-star in with Amy Poehler.

When asked how her script is developing, Isla replied: “Oh you mean Groupies? After Wedding Crashers I was just surprised as to the lack of comedic female material there is. So I had to start working and getting stuff out there for myself.

Groupies is pretty close to being ready and I’ve got another movie called Life Coach which I’ve been working on. Hopefully one of them will go soon. It’s more frustrating being in development than it is just to be cast in something. It’s a lot of things involved.”

The movie follows Isla’s and comedienne Amy’s rock groupie characters, and the pair are also set to executive produce.

This isn’t Isla’s first foray into writing. The 35-year-old actress has also written two novels but has previously revealed she has no plans to return to her old job.

She said: “I’m not writing trashy chick lit anymore. I wrote Groupies with Amy Poehler and since then, I developed another project. So, I’m still being creative and moving more into production, and making sure I have a little bit more power and control over my career.”

Motherhood Has Made Isla Fisher Very Selective About Movie Roles

Australian actress Isla Fisher has two daughters with British comic Sacha Baron Cohen, and since becoming a mom, she says she only signs up for a project if she really loves it.

She said of her new animated role in Rango: “Now that I’m a mum I don’t want to be away from the kids. I only work if I really love the scripts or the character or the director. And yeah, to see yourself as a lizard is a very surreal experience. It was so nice because I was able to enjoy my own performance.

“Normally when you watch yourself on camera, I think at least when you are magnified to that degree you just question why all the features on your face have been clustered together.”

One aspect of the film 35-year-old Isla particularly liked was getting to interact with the other voice actors -- including Johnny Depp and Abigail Breslin -- rather than recording the part of tough country girl Beans in a booth.

She told BANG Showbiz: “Comedy is timing. The timing you get from another performer being opposite you, the chemistry you get with it, the humanity you get from your own voice when you’re looking at a real person versus a microphone. It’s irreplaceable, that kind of energy. It was hugely beneficial, I believe, for all the performances, to be doing them.”
