Wind at My Back

Created and produced by Kevin Sullivan, (producer of Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea). Wind at My Back had five seasons, each with 13 episodes, and a Christmas-themed movie produced to wrap up loose ends, following the unexpected cancellation of the series. In 2010 the series was picked up by The Inspiration Network to air in the United States.

Loosely based on the books of Max Braithwaite, “Never Sleep Three in a Bed” and “The Night We Stole the Mounties Car”.

Synopsis of Season 1:
Wind at my Back chronicles the struggles of the Bailey family – torn apart by economic hard times while trying to survive The Great Depression of the 1930s. Blamed by her in-laws for the tragic death of her husband, Honey Bailey finds herself penniless and homeless. She is forced to leave her boys, Hub and Fat, with their wealthy and controlling grandmother, in the picturesque mining town of New Bedford. Her infant daughter Violet, is sent to live with distant relatives. Heartbroken at having to separate her family and with no prospect of a job, Honey feels helpless to ever reunite again with her children. At the Bailey mansion, the boys try to cope with their new life, battling their grandmother on every front. Both boys are determined to get their mother back at any cost, often at the expense of their difficult relatives.

Family connections:
Booth Savage (Jack Bailey), the father of Hub, Fat and Daisy, is the real-life father of Tyrone Savage (Fat). Shirley Douglas (May Bailey) was married to Donald Sutherland and is the mother of Kiefer Sutherland (24).
