Thanks to Mike's comment on a previous post I decided to bring the watercolors back out this session. I ended up having to premix colors in order to speed up the process. So I had gold, dark blue, brown, and skin tone at the ready to quickly lay in color. The top page is almost all watercolor except for the bottom left which is digital, the second page was also colored digitally.

Drawing Club: True Grit

Sketches from this past Thursday's (13Jan10) theme True Grit - Rooster Cogburn. John Tucker was posing + people were knocking them out of the park left + right. Probably a combination of great theme + a great model.

(If you haven't seen the new Coen brother's version I highly recommend it!)

First session back at Drawing Club (Jan 6) and man did I miss it over the break. To make the night even better we had the amazing Sara Streeter as Maleficent. So without further ado here are my sketches with a little Photoshop color to bring out the outfits a bit better.

Sorry for my tardiness, finally got around to scanning in my sketches from Drawing Club last Thursday. Good news though, I have officially moved! I think my books account for 50% of everything I own, another 25% would be art supplies and maybe a max of 2% clothing.
I have my priorities straight :P

John Tucker is such an amazing model. I couldn't help but be inspired by his fun poses. Also I've come to the realization that I do my best work at Drawing Club when standing up and listening to Michael Jackson. :]

Experimenting. I was surprised with how many times I've seen both Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas how little I could remember of the characters styling and color. Should have refreshed before I went haha. :]

Drawing Club: Jamie Hewlett - Tank Girl

Just watched Tank Girl for the first time Tuesday, and then what do you know, the theme for drawing club this week is inspired by Jamie Hewlett, aka Tank Girl guy. (Same guy who does the Gorillaz art) Really awesome stuff if you have never seen it. That seems to be the way my life works though, I always catch the clock at 11:11 and I learn about new things minutes before something about it comes into my life haha. I love it.

Sunday I'll be 23! Goodness this last year has flown, but I'm loving every minute. Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone!

Drawing Club: Safari

Lots of playing around this session. Brought Watercolor pencils and Caran d'Ache. Not the most successful experiment ever but you win some you lose some. My favorite of the night is the watercolor in the top right.

Oh, and before I forget! Went to SILA's (Society of Illustrators Los Angeles) Art in the Park last weekend. I've always had an interest in landscape painting and this just reaffirmed that I need to get out and do more of it, whether that be in oils or watercolor.
