Happy St Patrick's Day!

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone! To make sure you don't look like a leprechaun while celebrating this day, here are a few stylish suggestions:
Green floral patterned tops perfect for this summer by Marc by Marc Jacobs (left) and Trina Turk (right).
Casual green day dresses from Free People (left) and Velvet Torch (right). I especially like the style of the Velvet Torch one, the fit looks perfect.
And for the night, have fun in pale green in this Marc by Marc Jacobs dress (left: which Willa Holland wore in Teen Vogue) and silky and sexy Lauren Moffatt dress (right) just the thing to party in!For a more sophisticated look, go for emerald green. These two are by Zac Posen (left) and Roberto Cavalli (right).

To be a more subtle, accessorize with green shoes like these sexy Miu Miu strappy heels (left)and classic green heels (right: Top Shop).

Musing on Leggings

Lately the leggings trend has been everywhere, on the streets, in class, at the airport. . . its almost becoming a fashion cliche. But lets face it, we all love it and its probably going to be around for another season or so. What I'm wondering though is this: Do you differentiate them between leggings for under skirts/dresses and very tight black pants for under long shirts? It might sound a little trivial, but I've been wondering this because I always thought that they were tailored differently for different purposes. Tight black pants are typically tailored thicker because they are pants and leggings are more sheer and super tight for skirts, right? At least, this is how mine are made. So for under shirts where your butt is half exposed as in Mary Kate here (left), do you wear black pants? I mean, no one needs to be that acquainted with your butt. And for under long shirts where its not as in Ashley here (right), then don't you wear leggings/tights? (ps. don't they both look fab here with their cute short fur coats? I always thought fur coats were for older ladies, but I stand mistaken)
Ditto for Lindsey here. I wonder if they are tights or pants? I'm leaning towards pants because of how dark it looks and the crinkle at her knees.

Thoughts on this issue? How do YOU wear the trend?

The Black Headband

Recently, for lack of anything better to watch since everything worth watching stopped, I started watching Season 1 of The Hills. And I was struck by the magic of the black headband.
The black headband works for wonders for Lauren Conrad. Not only does it keep the hair out of her face, but it also makes her looks GREAT from a dinner date to a casual day at school.
After then of course, I started seeing black headbands everywhere. On the streets, the front row of the 3.1 Phillip Lim show on Michelle Williams(left) to Rinko Kikuchi(right) in a dress. And everyone looks soo pretty in them! It contrasts perfectly with their blonde hair. So what do we brunettes do for the same effect besides dying our hair blonde? We take a page from Drew Barrymore's outfit at the London premier of Music and Lyrics, and go for the gold/silver/metallic headbands of course!

Here is a selection from Intuition. For a more casual toned down classic headband to match everything, I'd go for the last one with the black print and gold background. You don't want to look too flashy now, since the whole point of the black headband is to provide a great contrast while still looking casual and down to earth. I can't find one online just yet, but I think a bronze-ish colored headband would look awesome too!

Smashbox O-Glow

So they did a very successful advertising campaign for this product, because after seeing the ad in both Allure and the Sephora catalog, I had the sudden urge to go out and get it- immediately!

But of course, being the rational shopper that I am (mostly anyway), I did have the presence of mine to try it out first. So just in case you haven't seen the ads, this product reacts with the moisture of your skin and creates a microcirculatory effect that produces a natural rosy flush- natural being the key word here. Nevermind the universal Orgasm blush shade from Nars, this one IS your color! This is so awesome because I never know what color to buy, with this product, its hard to go wrong. Wow, now I sound like their ad campaign.

But anyway, so I tried it on top of foundation and POOF I'm flushed! Its kind of scary at first because it comes out clear and turns into a hot pink shade once in contact with your skin, but after you blend it in that it turns into your natural shade. And just to see that it actually IS a different shade for everyone, I made my friend, who is slightly more tanned then me, try it too. Indeed, her natural blush is out. And in case you are wondering how we know it is our natural blush, we actually tried the blush on one cheek first, made each other flush naturally and compared :P LOL, the things we do to procrastinate during finals. . . .

The Perfect Jeans For YOU

Left to right: J Brand 12" Pencil Leg Stretch Jean, Citizen of Humanity Kelly Jean, Notify Wide Leg Jean. All from shopbop.com

I always get asked whether skinny jeans are still 'in' or will still be 'in' in the foreseeable future and I usually give a vague reply. The runway collections show a bit of all styles of trousers (skinny, straight, wideleg,) and the trousers available in stores also are a bit of all styles. So the thing is, there is no one prevailing trend and you should just wear whatever you think is the most flattering and comfortable (as you should for all other garments too).
The style of jeans you look best in mostly just depends on your body shape. Take me and my friend for example, we're the same height but we have different body shapes: I'm pear-shaped and she's apple-shaped. I usually prefer bootcut, but I've started to wear straight-leg too last summer (as opposed to skinny jeans). My friend on the other hand, also used to wear bootcut (which fit a bit loose) until the whole skinny jean trend came along. Since then, she's been completely hooked onto skinny jeans because they seriously fit well on her.
The Telegraph recently just published a fantastic article on which body shape suits which cut. It's common sense really, but it's definitely worth a read. Let me know your experiences with different styles of jeans!

Kate Moss Top Shop Collection Preview in Vogue

The new issue of Vogue UK is out! Usually, a new issue wouldn't get me that excited, but this issue has an exclusive preview of the much anticipated Kate Moss Top Shop collection. This issue was such a big deal that even Kate Phelan, co-fashion director of Vogue UK, appeared on BBC Morning to talk about the issue and Kate Moss' line. Actually, the interview was pretty interesting -the interviewer kept trying to bring up negative topics, like is it right for Kate to be earning more money than before after the cocaine incident, or wouldn't the clothes on Kate not look as good as on us? Kate Phelan of course, kept everything positive.
OK, I'm getting off topic here, my point is, the collection -at least those seen so far -is cool, like seriously cool. And it does look very Kate. From the preview, the collection has mainly composed of vests, blazer, shorts, suit trouser and many mini dresses, all in typical Kate colours -white, black, blue and vintage prints. I really like this vintage printed dress -it looks like a perfect balance of vintage and modern style. (Although I don't think I'll buy it because it feels like a 25-35 yr old dress.)
Now this dress I really love. I LOVE the details: one-shouldered with a lapel (gives the white dress an edge), the skirt part looks pleated and it's made of cotton, which seemed like a cheap material choice to me, but it just occured to me that cotton makes it more practical because it could be worn as an uber-cool daytime dress.

I never look foward too much to high street collaborations because they usually turn out to be unremarkable and low quality clothes, but the Kate collection is looking so far so good. (Besides, it's something to be happy about in May as opposed to exams.) The only thing I hate about it is that so many people will line up on the first day that I wouldn't even get near the dresses. Go figure.

I know everyone has probably seen the scans of Kate's preview online, but trust me, seeing it in print is so much better. Oh, and for those who don't want to spend 3.70pounds for only Kate's interview and preview, there are also a few other pretty editorials and the usual fantastic content to read. Enjoy!
