Beyonce Knowles gave a private performance for members of Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi’s family on New Year’s Eve 2009, but instead of keeping the cash for herself she gave it all away to Haiti after the devastating earthquake that ravaged the Caribbean nation.

Her publicist said: "All monies paid to Beyonce for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago.

"Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause."

Colonel Gaddafi has been linked to terrorist activity and accused of running a brutal regime over his people for 40 years. He's been asked to step down by leaders of the western world following a violent revolt in the Middle Eastern country, but has refused, even denying there is unrest in the state.

Earlier this week, Nelly Furtado revealed she is to donate the $1 million she earned performing for Gaddafi’s family in 2007.

The singer tweeted: "In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Qaddafi clan to perform a 45 min. Show for guests at a hotel in Italy. I am going to donate the $."

Beyonce Knowles is looking forward to starting a family and insists she can be a good wife and mother while maintaining her successful career.

She said: “I have so much admiration for women who are mothers, who balance family and work. I see them and I have this word in my head -- respect. I also look to learn. I see these women and I think, ‘Yes, it can be balanced, it can all work out.’ I do believe that it’s possible to have it all – work, a career, babies… It’s all a question of being very organized. That’s what I’m getting my head around.”

Although she wants to have it all, Beyonce also likes the idea of being a stay-at-home wife to spend quality time with her husband after previously taking a brief career break and enjoying the experience.

She told Britain’s Cosmopolitan magazine: “I took a year off and I even did some cooking, although I didn’t really enjoy that. I’m not the greatest cook -- I can do things with oxtail, though. It was great just having the time to be a wife rather than this non-stop traveling career girl.”

Beyonce Knowles

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles (born September 4, 1981), known as Beyoncé (pronounced /biˈjɒn.seɪ/ bee-YON-say), is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, actress and model. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she enrolled in various performing arts schools and was first exposed to singing and dancing competitions as a child. Knowles rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child. According to Sony, Knowles' record sales, combined with those of the group's, have surpassed 100 million.[2]

During the hiatus of Destiny's Child in 2003 Knowles released her debut solo album Dangerously in Love, which spawned the hits "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy", and became one of the most successful albums of that year, earning her a then record-tying five Grammy awards.[3] Following the group's disbandment in 2005, Knowles released B'Day in 2006, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and included the hits "Déjà Vu" and "Irreplaceable". Her third solo album I Am… Sasha Fierce, released in November 2008, included the anthemic "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", and earned her six Grammy Awards, breaking the record for most Grammy awards won by a female artist in one night.[4][5][6] Knowles is one of the most-honored artists by the Grammys, with 16 awards: 13 as a solo artist, and three as a member of Destiny's Child.

Knowles began her acting career in 2001, appearing in the musical film Carmen: A Hip Hopera. In 2006, she starred in the lead role in the film adaptation of the 1981 Broadway musical Dreamgirls, for which she earned two Golden Globe nominations. Knowles launched her family's fashion line, House of Deréon, in 2004, and has endorsed such brands as Pepsi, Tommy Hilfiger, Armani and L'Oréal. In 2009, Forbes listed Knowles fourth on its list of the 100 Most Powerful and Influential Celebrities in the world, third on its list of the top-grossing musicians, and number one on the list of top Best-Paid Celebs Under 30 with over $87 million dollars in earnings between 2008 and 2009.[7][8]

Knowles has attained five Hot 100 number one singles as a solo performer and three with Destiny's Child. On December 11, 2009, Billboard listed Knowles as the top female artist of the decade, and in February 2010, the RIAA listed her as the top certified and best-selling overall artist of the decade
