Jewelry Trends For Spring and Summer of 2011

Holly’s signature Art Deco inspired jewellery and tribal motifs were evident in her Jewelry Trends Spring Summer 2011 collection although, this time, we were not talking the Manhatten skyline but a port-to-port cruise ship vacation. The backdrop for Holly’s stylised collection seemed fit for the Jet-Set, afterall who wouldn’t pack a yellow laser-cut dress and skater-skirt for Rome? The strong choker-like styles seen in her neckwear and the geometric symmetry of statement earrings present a marriage of perspex and crystal that I anticipate with each new collection and without fail, Holly never ceases to impress.

The fashion set are banging on about bananas thanks to Henry’s take on the fruit and Prada’s obsession with the yellow beast. After seeing Madame Watermelon at Zac Posen’s Z-Spoke show in New York, I was half expecting the metallic cupcake clad models to bear tutti frutti earrings or banana bunches to be precise. But Henry wanted to tease us with new season fringe or Spring/Summer 2011s ball of fluff… the pom-pom!

A punk-makeover dispelled our fashion week complacency of 70s style and lace. This was London’s antidote to a season that was destined to be ultra-feminine. In contrast to Tchaikovsky’s ‘Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy’, the horror music that filled the show space when the models hit the runway confirmed our suspicions. Multi-dyed hairstyles held together by pret-a-porter collar necklaces suggested that jewellery-wear had hit the catwalk in the form of a rebellious, avante garde fairy.

Katrantzou’s signature trompe l’oeuil prints submerge us into the stylised world of interiors inspired by Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton’s fashion shoots. The hyper-real digital prints that we have grown to expect from Katrantzou were further enhanced with Victorian lampshade-inspired skirts and angled shoulder pelmets, giving each garment a 3-dimensional intrigue. The exquisite symmetry of the Jewelry Trends Spring Summer 2011 collection was reinforced by Mary’s chandelier necklaces and reconfigured wall sconces. The NewGen designer’s ability to create something extraordinary out of the ordinary is what inspires me year in and year out… and I find myself wandering if I would wear a candelabra around my neck this Spring?
